Preliminary Scouting Trip to Find New Site for a Smithcraft Hall

February 1999

Bryon walks out of the Apprentice Room.

Agrajag nods to Bryon, a glow basket in his hand, "you aren't doing anything right now are you?"

Bryon shakes his head, "No, sir.."

Gaederon walks out of the Apprentice Room.

Tucking in his shirttails, which have come loose, Gaederon stomps into the room and nods to Agrajag and Bryon. "So where are we off to?"

Agrajag grins at Bryon and motions to the glowbaskets laying on the ground, "then grab a glowbasket, we're going out," he nods to Gaed and smiles, "grab a glowbasket and tell me where you think would be a good place"

Bryon nods, picking up a glowbasket after he checks to make sure he has a jar of numbweed

Gaederon says, "My hands are healing pretty good, I should see a healer to see if I can start using them to work soon."

Agrajag nods to Gaed, "it shouldn't be any problem to carry a glowbasket should it?"

Gaederon looks at his hands "I see no problem, I did the Flamethrower Training yesterday"

Gaederon says, "But I should have a healer check them anyway."

Agrajag nods to Gaed, "do you want us to wait for you to run quickly to the Healer hall, or should we just go on without you.." he pauses for a moment, "or you could just stay close to us."

Gaederon says, "Perhaps Bryon should get his arm checked too."

Bryon shakes his head, "A healer already examined me today.."

Gaederon says, "Ok, I will go get the hands checked, you two go on, I will not be much use, not knowing the area at all."

Nathan wanders in from the Senior Area.

Agrajag nods to Gaed, "are you sure? An extra set of eyes is always useful, especially out in the dark."

Nathan says, "An extra set of eye fer what?"

Gaederon says, "Well, if you can delay for a bit, you could take me to healer hall to have them checked."

Gaederon scuffs his feet a bit, and waits for an answer.

Agrajag grins down at Nathan, "we're going to be looking for a place to build a new Crafthall at," he looks up and sighs at Gaed, "it's already a bit late, I don't know how much longer I want to take, do you have any idea how long it will take?"

Gaederon says, "No I don't but if you point me in the right direction I will go take care of it myself. If you want to go, maybe Nathan will go with you."

Nathan mms, and then looks up at the journyman, "Can I come with you?"

Agrajag nods to Gaed, "the healer hall isn't that hard to get to.." he looks down at Nathan and smiles, "as long as you stay close and don't mind carrying a glowbasket" his eyes briefly travel to the pile of glowbaskets in the corner.

Gaederon says, "I will just go check the map and I will be fine, I think I will go find Master Cera and see what she is doing..."

Gaederon nods to Agrajag and Bryon and turns toward the reception

Nathan stands straight, "I don't mind, can Rap and Don come?"

Agrajag nods to Gaed then turns back to Nathan, "who are Rap and Don?"

Nathan grins, "My firelizards, they can see good in the dark."

Gaederon says, "Wow, another good use for Firelizards"

Agrajag chuckles softly, "that's a good point, of course they can," he turns to Bryon, "are you ready?"

You call to Impy, who flies over and lands on your shoulder.

Donlic's little eyes unlid and he yawns and then looks around for something to eat!

Raphlic suddenly appears and chirps at Nathan.

Raphlic's little eyes unlid and he yawns and then looks around for something to eat!

Nathan calls to Raphlic who dives down from his high pearch to the top of Nathan's head.

Gaederon says, "Good Luck Agrajag, Bryon... Nathan"

Gaederon walks up the staircase to the south.

Nathan walks over to the glowbaskets, "When do we go?"

Bryon reaches down and picks up a basket

Agrajag looks to Bryon, "You're a Senior Apprentice now and have a fair idea of what this Craft needs, are there any areas you think we should look at?"

Bryon gets a sly smile on his face, "Well, nice beaches, good climate, good place to swim in.." he laughs

Nathan reaches down and lifts up a basket a smile on his face

Agrajag chuckles softly at Bryon, "you can find that just about any place in Ista"

Bryon smiles, "Well, we would need good access to water and lumber, a good road to transport materials over and general good solid ground to build on."

Agrajag nods, "all very good, are there any areas around here that fit that?"

Bryon thinks for a moment, "Well, would the forested area nearby work if we cleared some of the trees?

Agrajag nods, "that's what I was thinking as well, I suggest we go there tonight," he looks from Nathan to Bryon to see if they have any objections."

Nathan grins, "Let's go!"

Bryon smiles, "Hi ho and off we go.." he laughs

Agrajag grins and walks out.

You go to the Reception Hallway.

Reception Hallway (#2402)

This large and open hallway is the Reception Hall for Ista's Smithhall. Baskets of herbs hang from the ceiling, lending a fresh scent to the room. Windows looking toward the sea add light to the room during daylight. No visible traces of storm damage remain, every surface bears a new finish to it. Occasionally you hear a muffled noise from the Craftworks.

Baskets set into the wall are filled with sweet-smelling herbals.

Clinging to a high beam are Manra, Surf, and Chari Ris.

The floor is solid grey stone, slightly worn from the hundreds of Turns of use it's been through. Four `tapestries' hang around the hall at seemingly random intervals, coloring the otherwise dull hall. An assortment of tables and chairs and couches are strewn about the hall for any who wish to take a rest during their labors, but mostly people are using the great hall as a center for moving to other places. Archways and doors lead everywhere, but the most dominant doors are the great double doors to the east, leading out to the courtyard.

Bryon has arrived.

Agrajag pokes Nathan! Nathan ouches!

Nathan has arrived.

Agrajag slowly walks down the path, blowbasket held up high as he searches for another clearing.

Bryon looks around, shining his glowbasket this way and that, looking for what they need

Nathan lifts the glowbasket high, letting the light shine around.

Agrajag takes his eyes off the trees for a moment and looks at Nathan and Bryon, "do you two see anything yet? There's bound to be a clearing or two around here if we look hard enough"

From Nathan's shoulder, Raphlic chirps his head creening off in one direction, he bites his human-pet's ear, "What is it?" he waunders over through some trees, "Hey guys! It's another clearing!" his small voice calls out.

Agrajag grins and starts walking towards where he saw Nathan disappear, "How big is it?" he calls through the tree, still making his way to the opening the boy found.

Bryon walks carefully over to where Nathan indicated, "That it is.."

Nathan 's voice can be heard "Um, it's pretty big, I sent Raphlic and Donny to go scout it out, want me to go futher around it?"

Nathan ducks and eyes Raphlic as he zips to a high pearch.

Nathan smiles as Donlic opens his wings and as gracefully as he can, glides over to a pearch.

Agrajag calls out, "No! Not yet, let us find you first so we don't all get lost," a sigh of relief is heard as the Journeyman finally finds the opening the boy slipped through. He uses a leg and kicks some of the brush away, then uses his free hand to start to push some of the bigger branches out of the way and finally slides through himself and gasps as he holds up his glows and can't see any trees in the direction of the clearing.

Nathan has disconnected.

Nathan yawns and lies down tuckered out from looking, and getting into trouble.

Bryon follows Agrajag carefully, slipping once on a branch he didn't see. As he walks along he looks for the things which the hall would need.

Nolmo walks in from the valley.

Agrajag continues looking around, a big grin on his face. He turns around and hangs his glow basket on one a branch of one of the trees he just slipped through, then turns back and grins at Bryon, "I'll leave this here so we can find our way back, mind if I share your basket?"

Bryon shakes his head, "No, sir." He gets a big grin on his face, "But you can't have the numbweed.." he laughs

The housekeeper arrives to cart Nathan off to bed.

Nolmo enters the opening made by Agrajag and follows closely behind

Nolmo quickly gets out his glowbasket

Agrajag turns back as he hears Nolmo's footsteps and grins, "you've come to join us? Why don't you go explore over there," he points to the left from where you walked in from the opening, "while we go this was.." he motion towards the right, where he and Bryon are going.

Nolmo says, "k"

Nolmo holding the glowbasket in front of him, slowly begins going left of his current position

Nolmo has disconnected.

Nolmo falls asleep.

Bryon falls asleep.

Bryon moves slowly to the right, holding the glowbasket out and slightly to his right so Agrajag can see the light spread by the glowbasket.

Agrajag walks closely to Bryon's side for a little while, then suddenly stops and puts out an arm to stop Bryon, "do you hear that he says?" then leans towards the right a little as he hears the quiet sound of a stream.

Bryon smiles, "Aye, I did a minute ago, I'm trying to see where it is.." He laughs, "I think this would be a great spot.." he says, "We've got water and," he motions toward the sky, "Great sun.." he laughs again

Nolmo wakes up.

Nolmo has connected.

Agrajag chuckles softly and grins, "I like this sight, but I think we need to look at it closer in the day time. what do you think?"

Bryon nods, "Aye.."

Nolmo says, "Yeah"

Agrajag nods and starts to slowly walk back towards the glowbasket he left hanging, "then lets call it a night, I'll come back out here tomorrow with some more apprentices, and maybe a Master or two"

Nolmo says, "Ok, it has been fun but i gotta run so catcha later"

Nolmo walks out.

Bryon nods

Hold Valley

You stand amid the whispering, waving grasses of the Ista Hold valley. The grassy plain is framed on the north and south by stands of tropical trees. Along the southern edge of the valley lies the Herdercraft's Istan establishment, surrounded by several fenced-off areas that serve as the hold's pastures. Below, as the valley slopes downward to the east and the sea, the Hold's gather grounds are a wider grassy area, usually unpopulated except during gathers. To the west, the valley ascends and narrows into the ridge trail leading into the mountains.

This long stretch of white sandy beach is one of the main gathering spots at Ista Hold. A large uprooted tree, felled in the big storm, makes for a great bench, for people or firelizards alike. To the east, the crystal blue waters of the Hold cove roll up in gentle waves onto the beach, hissing softly as they ebb and flow.

To the south, Ista Hold juts out of the cliff. Just west of here, a low bluff leads up to the grassy field that serves as the Hold's main gather grounds. Beaches stretch away to the north and south.

The Flying Mug (#4749)

The interior of the Flying Mug at first looks innocuous enough, but closer inspection reveals the scars and marks of a much-frequented bar. The tables all match each other, except for the wobbly leg on that one, and the big scar on this one, and the complex patterns of mug-rings on those, and that sleeping Crafter at the one in the corner... The chairs have many of the same problems, except they look much less used. The ceiling of the Flying Mug has been painted to resemble the sky over Ista. The painter must have been incredibly talented too, because he even knew how to make his paintings of dragons look like they were moving. Oh, wait, those are just firelizards. Nevermind. The walls, too, have been painted: small scenes of Pernese life intermingle with portraits and caricatures of famous Mug patrons.

Bryon sighs, "Still hurts terribly when someone bumps into it, but it is better.."

Agrajag nods, "that is good. What would you like to drink? It'll be on me tonight."

Bryon smiles, "Benden Red would be good.." he says, then tries to act serious, "Only because you're buying of course.."

Agrajag chuckles and slowly shakes his head, "I'll have to remember to get the drink name before I tell you I'm buying next time," he quickly calls over a druge and orders two glasses of Benden Red.

Bryon smiles, "I'll buy next time.." he says

Agrajag chuckles, "wait until you make journeyman first" he says with a grin

Bryon smiles, "Oh.. I don't plan on that taking all that long.." he says, his voice dripping with sarcasm

Agrajag chuckles and grins as the drugde drops off the glasses. He takes a sip then grin at Bryon, "have you decided what you're doing your scroll on? That always took me the longest.."

Kesara walks in from the great hall.

Bryon picks up his glass in his right hand and takes a sip, savoring the taste before swallowing...

Agrajag turns as he sees Kesara walk in and nods, "hello again"

Bryon smiles at Kesara, "Hello again, again.." he says with a chuckle

Kesara pretends to look annoyed "I do not laugh frivolously!"

Kesara tickles Bryon....'hehhee'

Bryon turns and smiles at Agrajag, "I was thinking of doing it on acid etching designs into blades and other metal forms."

Orianna walks with a bounce in her step in from the great hall.

Agrajag smiles, "sounds interesting, I can't wait to read it"

Orianna wanders in, moving around the tables almost without thinking, and plunks herself on her usual stool behind the bar, looking as though she just woke up.

Bryon smiles, "I'll enjoy that.." he says

Bryon takes another sip of his drink and says, "Well, I better be going, sir, I do need to get rest for tomorrow.."

Cirrae moves with a soft step in from the great hall.

Agrajag nods, "it will be nice to have a new Hall, but I still can't help but regret sending Yari in there.." he sighs and picks up his glass and takes a big drink.

Orianna glances up and grins at Cirrae, "Evening, miss. Can I get you anything?"

Bryon looks at Agrajag, "sir, it isn't your fault. If you remember Evan did the same thing to me.. and even though I thought it wrong I didn't act to either of you as she did.."

Cirrae hesites as she enters, eyes looking up to the person who addressed her, "Oh...well, lets see." She takes a few more steps in, "Some orangefruit juice would be wonderful."

Kesara has disconnected.

Kesara falls asleep.

Agrajag drops his glass and grins, "Thank you Bryon, that helped"

Orianna grins and nods, pouring a glass of the juice and setting it on the bar.

Bryon looks skeptically at Agrajag, wondering if he's being truthful, "You okay?" he asks

Agrajag chuckles softly, "yes, I'm fine. Can't regret my mistakes now can I? Just have to keep pushing on"

Orianna goes home.

Bryon shakes his head, "I don't think it was a mistake, she was disciplined, how she took it was her choice, her mistake.." he says

Agrajag nods and stands up, "I think what you said about rest is a good idea"

Bryon stands and says, "Ok, good night, sir.."

Bryon walks through a door into the great hall.

You pass through a door into the great hall.
