As the Smith Hall Turns

Part VIII

February 7, 2001

Jaina moves silently in from the Common Room.

Arakiel starts to stir as the fever awakens her. "hot... Evan?.." licking her dry lips. An the damp clothe seems a bit dry.

Jaina hmms and replaces the eyecloth with a damp one as soon as she checks it "I'm here." she whispers.

Arakiel sighs as she drifts back to sleep, with one last "Evan?"

Arakiel groans softly as she starts to stir. How long as she been like this? Does she care? She tries to move. "No... No more..."

Jaina blinks a few times and then moves quickly to the bedside "Its okay, Ara." she says softly, favoring the woman with a half smile "I'm here." she adds, her contralto soft.

Arakiel tries to shake her head. "no.... no..more.. no..."

Jaina watches the woman silently a momment "No more what?" she asks softly, her voice low but firm and comforting as well.

Arakiel groans, as she struggle to fight the restraints. "No... Evan..."

Evan glides silently in from the Gathering Hall.

Evan walks quietly into the infirmary, his eyes going first to his wife on the cot

Bailyn walks in from the Gathering Hall.

Arakiel is in the middle of a bad delirium, lost in the past as she tries to fight the restraints. "No... no more... "

Bailyn glances in. Oh, people! Walking to where everone else is, she glances at Arakiel. Oh, not good.

Jaina makes a quiet shhing sound and then glances up as Evan comes in, her eyes laid curiously on Bailyn as she also wanders in. "No more what?" she asks her paitent quietly, trying to sort out the cause of her struggles...

Evan sighs as he sits down next to Arakiel and looks up at Jaina in unspoken question.

In her weakened condition, Ara can't break free but she dearly wants to. "I won't... I... Evan...NO! Don't..."

Bailyn raises an eyebrow. All she wanted to do was visit. Maybe she should go? Glancing at Jaina, she tries to smile.

Jaina shrugs slightly "The last few minutes she's been saying no more and calling for you." the healer says quietly, her dark eyes concerned as she looks back again to Ara, its not time for the midicine, two hours too early. Jai glances up at Bailyn and gives her a quick smile before looking back down at poor Ara.

Evan nods as he just watches his wife, clearly wishing there were something he could do."

Bailyn cringes. Why does this have to happen. If it wasn't for the crazy person who wanted to hurt Arakiel, this would never had happened!

Arakiel groans, arching her back or trying to, to get out of the cot. "Let... ME GO!" Then she lets out a loud four letter word. Then she stops, spent.

Jaina shakes her head and sits up slightly straighter, rubbing her eyes a second "Its been off and on like this, and she was restless last night as well." the healer adds, her brown eyes looking to Evan a momment.

Evan sighs, "It's getting worse."

Bailyn frowns. Looking at Jaina she asks, "Will she get better?"

Arakiel sighs as she becomes limp, sweat running off her heated body, sinking into a dreamless maze of thought.

Jaina sighs and nods "She is getting worse, mayhaps I should send for Danna?" she says, rather than asks her eyes again going to Evan in question "She should get better, her fever has gone up, but I keep the eyecloths cool and damp and I get the meds to her on time mostly." she says, all of this quietly, an almost worried tone in her voice.

Bailyn frowns. More Healers.

Evan grumbles, "Perhaps I should send for Rarah..."

Evan looks to Jaina, "Send for someone... a mechanic is not what we need here."

Jaina sighs and nods "Yes, maybe you should send for Rarah. I'm really not sure if Journeywoman Sudanna or I or even Journeyman Keral can do much more...than we've already done." she says, her eyes on Evan as she watches him and nods, she just hopes someone's about at the Healer Hall.

**Just then ****

Sudanna walks in from the Gathering Hall.

Bailyn looks at Sudanna. Another healer? Oh I am going to faint. No, this is about Arakiel. A small smile is sent to Sudanna.

Sudanna slips quietly into the (better be) darkened infirmary. Nodiing to Jaina, she motions for her to step outside and fill her in on what's happening with Ara.

Evan Looks up and nods to Sudanna, "We were just talking about sending for you or Rarah. She's getting worse." The pain in his voice is evident.

Bailyn looks out to the hall. Glancing at Evan, she tries again to smile. Bailyn is the smiley person. Why can't she be that way now?

Sudanna walks to the Hallway.

Jaina moves silently to the Hallway.

****This could be heard just outside the Infirmary****

Jaina moves silently in from the Smith Infirmary.

Sudanna says, "Jaina, what's happening to Ara? Willow picked up on some sort of distress, but not being sure, I had S'keagan drop me by. Has she been getting her meds?"

Jaina stops just outside the infirmairy door, giving herself a chance to breathe a bit louder before speaking "She's been feverish, talking loudly in her sleep. Asking for Evan, I'd expect but she also yells in her sleep saying things like 'No more' or 'Let me go' and trying to break the restraints..." she says, her eyes kinda worried "I have been giving her the meds on time and regularly, we've rarely had a late dose." she adds, shrugging helplessly.

Sudanna hmmms. "I think we will increase the tincture in the brown bottle. If nothing else, it will help ease her into a deper sleep and allow her to rest. She's been getting nine drops, let's try twelve. And again, I'll mix it up, so there will be no repercussions if this comes to light. You don't now except what I give you. ALright?" Eyes the fellow journeywoman. If she objects, she won't do it.

Jaina nods "Thats fine, I just want her to rest eassier and sleep through the night. She hasn't been lately." the healer adds, cocking her head to the side again "I was up with her last night...and she was only restless last night..." Jaina says, her brown eyes resting on Danna.

Sudanna nods, and smiles. "Then you need some rest as well.. Let's increase the dose and see if that helps the two of you then." She heads back into the infirmary.

**Meanwhile****

Arakiel starts to come around, as she shifts against the restraints. Feeling the restraints, she groans softly.

Evan turns to Arakiel as she moves, one hand moving to rest lightly on her arm.

Arakiel feeling Evan's touch, some part of her fevered mind recognizes it, "Evan?"

Evan smiles ever-so-slightly, "Yes love... I'm here."

Jaina moves silently in from the Gathering Hall.

Arakiel sighs, at the sound of Evan's name. "Don't leave me."

Sudanna walks in from the Gathering Hall.

Bailyn looks at the healers as they walk back in. A slight smile is sent to them both.

Sudanna immediately busies herself remixing the potion she left earlier. Adding more tincture and stronger herbs, she brews a large pitcher full. She also changes the cloth on her eys and when she is done, turns to Evan, speaking in low tones "Journeywoman Jaina has a new medicine to try and see if that will help ease your Lady wife and allow her the much needed rest she should have. Again.. no less then every four hours, but a full cup as needed."

Evan smiles, "I"ll stay right here love."

Arakiel tries to reach out to Evan. "Love."

Evan nods to Sudanna, "I hate seeing her like this..." HIs hand clenches as if gripping a knife or other weappon then relaxes, "but, then, I'm sure that you know that."

Bailyn grins. She is getting better! She isn't as violent!

Sudanna says, "it's not easy, I do know. But she was strong before she got ill. She will most likely make a fine recovery. Now, let's get the new dose into her.""

Evan suddenly gets terribly still for an elongated moment before he turns, eyes and voice ice-cold, to face the healer, "Most likely? You said she _would_ recover."

Jaina nods slightly as she moves back towards the desk and settles on the edge of it for the momment, "I'm sure she'll make a full recovery, Master Evan." the healer says quietly, her eyes settling on the man for now.

Arakiel groaning softly as she returns to the previous delirium. "No... more... want.. free... Evan..."

Bailyn steps back. Poor Arakiel. All a sudden she wants to leave. I don't need to be here. I don't want to be here. To many healers....Not looking at anyone she leaves quickly, flipping her hair behind her ears.
Bailyn walks west.

Evan shakes his head as he turns back to Arakiel, "As soon as you're well dearest."

Arakiel tries to shake her head, "NO... Now! Must..."

Jaina shakes her head. The poor woman, she only wishes she had known last night what to do for poor Ara.

Evan sighs, "In a few days perhaps love."

Arakiel grows angerily, "Now..." She wants free to do... to do what? Hmm... Maybe it's agood thing she is tied up.

Sudanna approaches the ill woman and speaks soothingly..."Lady Ara, you need rest now. Master Evan needs you well and the only way to do that is to do as the Healers tell you. Please Lady."

Jaina stands from her seat on the desk and crosses the floor of the darened infirmairy, finding her stool next to the cot she sits there, her eyes on Ara as she listens quietly to Danna speak.

Evan glares at Sudanna in reflex.

Arakiel snarls, then the extra effort tires her and she sinks back into the cot.

Sudanna ignores Evan and speaks directly to Ara, stroking her hand and re-damping her eyecloth...

Jaina shakes her head slightly as she watches Evan and Danna a momment, then she remains quiet, watching Ara pensively as she ponders something "It'll be alright, Ara." the healer whispers quietly, the words meant mostly for Ara herself.

Arakiel sighs in fustration as she sinks into her fevered mind.

Sudanna still whispering.. "I leave her in your hands, but please.. let me know if I can be of more help. Rememer, if you need to mix more of the tuftgrass and tincture mixture, it is now 12 drops and every 4 hours.

Jaina nods slightly at Sudanna "Okay, I've got it." she whispers back, her eyes turning to Danna from Ara. "I will let you know if she gets any worse of f I need you, thank you Journeywoman." she adds, her voice low.

Sudanna says, "Anytime Journeywoman." Smiles at evan, knowing his gruffness is from worry and gently replacing Ara's hand on her cot, stands and heads out and home."
Sudanna walks to the Hallway.

Arakiel loses herself in the dreamless sleep as her breathing becomes regular.

Jaina sighs slightly as she rubs her eyes ever so slightly, she's not tired tired. But its more of a mental sleepyness she's enduring "It'll be okay," se assures Ara, or maybe its Evan? Whomever it is, the words could be heard easily, the infirmairy is so quiet.

Evan sighs and looks to Jaina, "I'll watch her for a while if you need to do something."

Arakiel listens to the tireness of Evan's voice as it somehow penetrates her fogged mind and sighs.

Jaina smiles and shrugs "I'll just be over there neatening the desk up if you need anything." she says, wandering leisurely over to the desk and taking the chair behind it, she starts to sort thigs quietly, her eyes gazing at quite a few hides, right now, she'll leave the two be...ayup.

Stubborn as she is, Ara can't fight the restraints and her dreams for long periods and somehow, she knows Evan is nearby.

Evan nods and just watches ARakiel sleep.

Jaina shuffles a few hides then stacks them correctly as she starts to put her stylus' in a handy jar nearby...well hers and Keral's and any other Healers stylus'. She then opens a book and starts to read, putting her feet up on the desk for more comfort for the momment.

Arakiel sighs softly as she sleeps on.

***Sometime later ****

Arakiel starts to stir again, "Where...?"

Evan says, "You're still in the infirmary dear.""
"
Arakiel pulls at the restraint, "Free me."

Evan sighs, "YOu have firehead dear... you need to wait until you're better. You were delusinal just an hour ago."

Arakiel pulls at the restraint to the point her hand is white and ruddy red. "NO."

Evan takes her hand, "Do you want to die love? If you do I'll take the restraints off. And I'll take my life right after you go."

Arakiel curls her fingers around his hand, squeezing hard. "Don't want..."

Jaina is up on her feet in a matter of seconds, she's standing my the pitcher and already pouring a cup of the meds. "Its time for her meds if you wanna give them to her," she says quietly, moving to Evan's side and offering the cup to him.

Evan nods, "Then let the healers do their work.

Arakiel groans softly. "Don't like... free me. Hot ... so hot." Stirring restlessly, holding tightly onto him.

Evan replaces the cloth on her forehead with a new one. He glances to Jaina and nods.

Jaina offers the cup to Evan silently, her eyes on Ara as she does, she has a feeling he'll be able to get her to take it tons easier than she'd be able to...

Arakiel moving against the restraints, muttering softly curse words.

Evan gently lifts Arakiel's head, "Here, drink this dear. Then you can sleep for a while."

Arakiel allows herself to be lifted, somewhere deep within her, she knows this is Evan. She takes the meds for once without fighting the cup.

Jaina accepts the cup back and sets it on the table nearby "She shold rest easier now." the J-man says, moving to her stool and perching upon it to watch over Ara.

Evan nods, "We can hope."

Arakiel sighs. "Rest?"

Evan Nod,s "Yes dear... sleep."

Jaina nods "Sleep is very good for you right now, okay Ara?" she asks softly, nodding slightly to herself as she ponders.

Arakiel sighs, "Want free." she slurps her words as the drug starts to work.

Evan says, "quiet love. Just sleep.""

Arakiel tries to nod as the drug works for now.

Jaina nods to herself then goes back to her desk, happy that the lady is finally getting some rest. She settles herself behind her desk and starts into her book again, keeping her ear out for anything Evan or Arakiel might need her for.

Arakiel's breathe becomes regular and deep as she falls into the druged sleep.

Evan sighs softly, "Finally." he whispers.

Arakiel takes a deep breathe and for a moment looks like she'll awaken but false alarm.

Arakiel sifts her shoulders into a more comfortable position as she sleeps on.

Jaina takes a second to blink, her eyes opening to take another glance at Ara, she likes this woman and does want her to get well. Even if it tires Jai out, she won't mind, she's a healer, ayup.

Arakiel sleeps on. Her breathing deep and evan.

Jaina starts to read her book silently, stopping once only to prop an extra pillow behind her...

Arakiel groans softly as she starts to dream but doesn't awaken.

Jaina glances up again. "The poor woman," the healer murmurs to herself sympathetically before she looks at her book.

Arakiel's breathing is steady and regular as she dreams.

Evan watches Arakiel dream.

Arakiel sighs softly and says Evan's name in her sleep.

Jaina keeps her eyes in her book, that being one of the only ways that could keep her awake, she's just trying to see how long she can keep awake, it must be some dare...

Arakiel sighs as she whispers, "Evan?"

Evan leans closer, "Yes dear?"

Arakiel sighs, licking her lips, "Thirsty."

Evan takes a glass of water from a nearby table and holds it to her lips, "Here you go."

Arakiel sips the water and sighs.

Jaina eyes her book and then glances up a momment as she watches Evan give Ara water, she then looks back to her book as she sees that Evan's got everything under control.

Evan sets the water back down, "Anything else you need dear?"

Arakiel sighs as she licks her lips.

Unable to keep her eyes open, Jaina retires for the night.

Arakiel sighs as she drifts back to sleep. "Love..."

Evan smiles, "I'll be here love."

Arakiel smiles slightly, hearing his voice.
