Ista Hold Main Courtyard

Built into the side of a hard granite cliff, Ista Hold looms dominantly to the west.  Windows pock the smooth surface of the cliff in neat rows until they get closer to the ground, where they begin to frame the great bronze doors leading into the Hold itself.  A sea breeze seems constantly in the air here as the ocean and the wharf lay but dragonlengths to the east.   Beaches are scattered to the north, recreational areas for the Hold's residents when not working.  

It is a spring sunset. 

Perched on a windowsill are RedRobin and Cayenne.

Tantric waves happily as she meanders in from the Hold, " Hello!"

Flamer Chargin Unit

A large shiny metal tank with several tubes connected to it. It is filled with a flammable liquid.  This is what flamethrower tanks are recharged with.
A large red sign is painted on the side.  It reads:

"DANGER!  EXPLOSIVE LIQUID!  ABSOLUTELY NO FLAMING NEAR THIS!"

The mark of the Smithcraft Hall is printed on it.

Tantric watches the man set up targets and flamethrowers.." Oh! This must the the flamethrower class.." she says and grins, " For some reason I thought it was elsewhere..

Paric quickly moves about the courtyard setting up the flamer targets.  He moves over to the charging unit and takes a look at it to make sure that it is full and working properly, then turns about to move over to the flamer rack.  "Ah...Tantric.  I take it you are here for your flamer lesson?" he asks of the apprentice.  "Do you know if there will be anyone else, today?"  He glances over at Moiraine, "Are you attending the lesson today?"

Karana walks towards the beach.

Moiraine nods, "Yes, If I may."

You remove Craft Flamethrower 6 from flamer rack.

Paric chuckles and nods at Moiraine's response, "Yes, of course you can."

Tantric nods, " Yes sir.. umm no I don't but I'm still a little new.."

Nelag walks down some steps which lead to the great doors and the Hold.

Nelag goes home.

Paric nods, "Okay then Tantric. Moiraine.  Why don't you go over to the flamer rack and each get a flamer then."

Tantric nods and trots over to the flamer rake and selects a flamer..." I'll take this one..."

Tantric removes Craft Flamethrower1 from flamer rack.

Undora walks in.

Undora walks up a few small steps and passes into the Hold through the great doors.

Moiraine has disconnected.

Moiraine falls asleep.

Keyree walks in.

Keyree walks up a few small steps and passes into the Hold through the great doors.

Paric places his flamer down at the ground by his feet and smiles.  "I'm sure that you have already guessed that this is a flamer," he says indicating to the large object with two tanks on it sitting on the ground next to him.  "There are many parts to the flamer that must be checked for damage prior to its operation.  As you can see, the flamer consists of the fuel tanks, hose, wand and pressure gauge," he says pointing to each part in turn.  "Now I'm being a little simplistic, however, for our purposes if you check each of these areas for any damage prior to using the flamer, you may end up preventing a very serious accident."

The housekeeper arrives to cart Moiraine off to bed.

OOC: Tantric wonders if this is anything like a propane tank that you use to burn weeds?

OOC: Paric smiles, "The concept is the same...different fuel though..."

Tantric nods and looks over her chosen flamer... " Letsee... tanks? hoseamabob, connected to wand, and .." she looks on top of the tank, " Pressure guage.."

OOC: Tantric nodders, Is it still cold though? ;)

Mishanda walks in.

Mishanda grins and hikes up a few small steps and passes into the Hold through the great doors.

Flarra walks down some steps which lead to the great doors and the Hold.

Karana walks in.

Karana walks up a few small steps and passes into the Hold through the great doors.

Paric smiles and picks up the flamer sitting next to him. "You'll want to check these  fuel tanks, wand and guages for for any dents, cracks or scratches, as well, check the tubing to see if it is worn, brittle, or cracking.  If it is, don't use it!  It'll need to be repaired by one of the smithcraft masters."

Ruddle walks in.

Ruddle walks up a few small steps and passes into the Hold through the great doors.

Tantric nods and would rather not end up as a flaming mass of fire thanks.. she examines the hose, flexing it carefully to make sure it's not brittle and she carefully looks over the tanks and wand to make sure there aren't any bends.. " Looks like it's good"

Paric nods and then points to a small little switch on the wand.  "You'll notice that each flamer has a safety that should be engaged when the flamer is not in use.  The holders and the Smithcraft Masters have keys to all of the flamers so that they may disengage the safety mechanism should they need to.  Now while it takes a key to unlock the safety, any one can engage it.  The only way you'll be able to use the flamer to incinerate thread, fuel or drain it, et cetera, is to make sure that the safety is off."

Tantric nods and duely notes the safety switch, " Kay.."

Cecil walks in.

Flarra leads Paithan.

Flarra walks to the Stables.

Paithan trots gracefully to the Stables.

Setting the flamer back down on the ground, Paric continues. "The chemical we use to fuel the flamer is call Ageenothree.  It accomplishes two things: one, it'll flame and incinerate thread, and two, it'll drown the escaping thread in the burrow that they create should they ever get past the dragons and their riders."  He chuckles, "Now there is one interesting side effect to Ageenothree.  Do you know what that is?"

Kaeryn walks in.

Kaeryn bounces up a few small steps and passes into the Hold through the great doors.

Jasion walks in.

Nathan ducks and eyes Raphlic as he zips to a high pearch.

Kaeryn walks in.

Jasion walks towards the beach.

Raphlic glides towards the beach.

Paric chuckles and nods, "Yes...Ageenothree is a liquid placed under pressure in the fuel tanks and it is ejected through the wand when you depress the trigger.  As it is a liquid it'll flow down into the thread burrows and drown the escaping thread.  And while on the ground or air, we can ignite Ageenothree and incinerate thread.  So, other than the two main purposes of ageenothree, do you know what beneficial side effect it has?"

Tantric ponders this question for a second, " Doesn't it work in a distance writer somehow?"

Amie walks in.

Amie walks up a few small steps and passes into the Hold through the great doors.

Jasion walks in.

Jasion walks towards the beach.

Paric shakes his head, "No...I sort of wonder where your head is at the moment, Tantric.  Actually, Ageenothree can act as a soil fertilizer which is very beneficial to plant life.  So it not only destroys, it help generate growth in plants."

Tantric scritches her head, " Sorry sir.. don't know much about soil.. sand I get, soil.. nu uh.." she beams though, " I will deffinately make a note of that though..."

Paric smiles, "Okay...why don't we continue.  Now while ageenothree can ignite into flames, you must also keep in mind that it is also a very caustic substance that can burn skin upon contact.  So it is very important that you follow my instructions very carefully today.  If you ever do end up spilling and of it on your skin, you should immediately flush the area with large amounts of water until the pain subsides.  After which, you should report to a healer.  Is this understood?" he asks looking directly at Tantric.

Tantric straightens and nods, " Yes sir.." she says, she'll be very carefull honest..
Shava walks in.

Paric smiles and nods.  "If you ever end up spilling any of the ageenothree on the ground, move away from it.  It'll soak into the ground where, as I mentioned a little earlier, it'll act as a fertilizer and thereby become harmless to you and those around you."

Tanis appears from ::between:: in mid-dive.

Shava calls to Tanis, who flies over and lands on her shoulder.

Shava walks up a few small steps and passes into the Hold through the great doors.

Karana walks in.

Tantric nods and grins, " Oh good.. I'l make sure of it then..that I'll move away that is.."

Jasion walks in.

Jasion walks towards the beach.

Nathan grins watching the lesson, taking notes on everything.

Karana walks towards the beach.

Paric chuckles. "Okay...why don't we start getting these things charged up and ready to use!" he says with a grin.  He picks up his flamethrower and walks over to the flamer charging unit.  Setting it back down on the ground near the unit, he turns to Tantric to come over and watch his demonstration.  Paric pulls out a small key that he had sequestered in his belt pouch and inserts it in the locking mechinism of the flamer and gives it a quick and deliberate turn.  With an audible click, the safety mechanism is now disengaged on his flamer.

You remove Craft Flamethrower 6 from your back and carefully set it down.

Karana walks in.

Tantric pads over with her flamer in hand and sets her flamer down next to him carefully,

Kaelya slides, her mind in space, up a few small steps and passes into the Hold through the great doors.

Karana walks up a few small steps and passes into the Hold through the great doors.

Narissa walks in.

Emiliatha walks in.

Emiliatha walks softly up a few small steps and passes into the Hold through the great doors.

Narissa drops Ferret [Narissa].

Jasion walks in.

Jasion walks up a few small steps and passes into the Hold through the great doors.

Jasion walks down some steps which lead to the great doors and the Hold.

Paric smiles as he kneels down and couples a fueling hose to the flamer's fuel tanks and then looks over at Tantric.  "Okay...as you can see.  This procedure is very simple.  However, as I mentioned earlier, make sure that you follow my instructions carefully.  You will want to place your flamer on the ground and couple the fueling hose to it.  When that is done...and the safety is disengaged, you can flip this switch on the charging unit and it'll begin to fill the flamer."  He turns back and flips the switch and the flamer charging unit begins to fill the flamer's tanks.  "Make sure that you watch the pressure guage so that you don't overfill the tanks.  Even though there is another safety mechanism in the charging unit, sometimes accidents occur and it is wise to be ready for them."

Kaelya walks in.

Kaelya slides, her mind in space, up a few small steps and passes into the Hold through the great doors.

You hook your Craft Flamethrower 6 up to the Flamer Chargin Unit.

Fuel begins pumping into the Craft Flamethrower 6.

Jasion walks out of the courtyard onto the docks.

Paric smiles and looks over at the guage and check the pressure.

Tantric removes Craft Flamethrower1 from her back and carefully sets it down.

Paric nods, "Okay...this one is ready.  Your turn." he says indicating that Tantric should hook her flamer to the charging unit.

Tantric nods and takes the fuel hose and carefully attaches it to the fuel tanks, " Like this?"

Narissa goes home.

Paric nods.  "Yes..."

Tantric umms and grins as Paric unlocks her flamer, " Thanks.."

Paric smiles, "Very good.  Why don't we head over to the target range and we'll actually practice firing these things.  However, first why don't you check your pressure guage and make sure that it is properly filled."

Tantric grins and unhooks the hose after the dial reads that the tanks are full, " I think I'm set.." she nods and double checks to make sure..

Tantric examines a dial on her Craft Flamethrower1.

Tantric nods, " Yup.. I'm ready.." she says with a grin.

Paric chuckles, "Well...when you walk around with a flamer, make sure that you point the flaming wand toward the ground as you move from location to location.  You don't want to point and aim the wand at anything you don't want to incinerate.  Okay...now follow me."  He moves over to the target area and indicates for Tantric to stop and watch.  He takes a couple of steps toward the target and looks to make sure that no one is about.  He takes aim at the target and slowly depresses the trigger and ...

You lift Craft Flamethrower 6 and strap it on your back.

Paric depresses the trigger on his Craft Flamethrower 6. Instantly, a *huge* flame erupts from the end of the wand.

Flamer target is hit by the flame!

There is an audible 'clack' from Paric's Craft Flamethrower 6, and the flame disappears with the remains of the flamer target.  Paric looks around for another target.

Paric turns around and head back over to Tantric with the wand pointed at the ground.  He smiles and says, "Okay... your turn.  Do exactly as I demonstrated."

Tantric nods and straps the tanks back on, careful of the wand and follows watching as he flames the target."

Tantric lifts Craft Flamethrower1 and straps it on her back.

Tantric lines up with the target and looks around to make sure that paric and other people are not in around in case something happens and she points the wand at the target..." Okie.. and I do what now?"

Shava walks down some steps which lead to the great doors and the Hold.

Tantric depresses the trigger on her Craft Flamethrower1. Instantly, a *huge* flame erupts from the end of the wand.

Flamer target is hit by the flame!

There is an audible 'clack' from Tantric's Craft Flamethrower1, and the flame disappears with the remains of the flamer target.  Tantric looks around for another target.

Tantric jumps back a little and grins sheepishly, " Wow... and when I say wow I mean wow.."

Shava walks towards the beach.

Nathan looks up, "Can I try?"

Paric chuckles and shakes his head.  "Well..Nathan, you are a little young still.  And you missed the entire beginning of the class.  Perhaps next time."

Paric chuckles and grins, "Great job, Tantric.  Okay....Now at the end of a long, hard day of fighting thread, we need to get head back and get these things ready for storage.  Why don't we head over to the charging unit and do just that." he says to the young apprentice.  He walks over to the unit and sets his flamethrower down next to it.   "Okay...the process for draining your flamer is just as simple as filling it.  Just couple the fueling hose to the fuel tanks and then reverse the switch on the unit...like so."

You remove Craft Flamethrower 6 from your back and carefully set it down.

You hook your Craft Flamethrower 6 up to the Flamer Chargin Unit.

Paric chuckles, "Okay....do you have any questions?"

Nathan has disconnected.

Nathan yawns and lies down tuckered out from looking, and getting into trouble.

Tantric hmms, " If the safety is on, why do we drain the flamers?" she asks as she puts up her flamer.

Tantric puts Craft Flamethrower1 in flamer rack.

Paric smiles and nods, "Good question.  You drain the flamers when you are going to be storing them.  This reduces the chance of an accidental spill while they are in storage."

You close flamer rack.

Paric smiles, "Any other questions?"

Tantric nods, " I see that.." she grins and shakes her head, " Nope.. I think that about covers my questions.."

Chandra walks in.

Chandra moves with sure-footed grace up a few small steps and passes into the Hold through the great doors.

Paric grins, "Great.  If you do have any others though, please come by and see me or any of the other masters or journeymen.  Well, I should be off now.  I am supposed to meet Cera in a little while."

Tantric nods, " Thanks sir.. it was most informative

Paric smiles, "And you should probably be heading off to your next lesson or whatever it is you have planned."

The housekeeper arrives to cart Nathan off to bed.

Tantric nods and scampers

Tantric picks up Lisette.

Tantric goes home.
