Paric smiles as Ganarah enters the courtyard.  "Aahh...there you are.  Are you ready for your flamer lesson?"

Toni walks towards the beach.

Ganarah says, "Yes sir.  Sorry I'm a bit late....."

Jewel blinks in from ::between::!

Brown_Guest says, "Hello""

Sysai walks in.

Paric smiles and chuckles, "Oh...that is alright.  Oh hello there!" he says recognizing Brown_Guest.

You notice Sysai looking at you.

Paric smiles and shrugs, "No idea."

Sysai somehow makes her way towards the beach.

Paric smiles, "Well, Ganarah.  Why don't we get started then."

Brown_Guest walks to the Stables.

Paric smiles and walks over to the flamer rack and opens it.  He lifts out one of the flamers and sets it on the ground in front of him.

You remove Craft Flamethrower1 from Flamer Rack.

Ganarah says, "Ok.  I'll try not to be so annoying with the questions this time sir."

You remove Craft Flamethrower1 from your back and carefully set it down.

Paric chuckles. "Oh...that is alright.  Shows that you are paying attention...or not." he says with a shrug.

Ganarah blushes slightly.  "I hope it show that I pay attention...."

Toni walks in from the beach.

"We'll see," Paric says with a grin.  Pointing to the large object consisting of two large cylinders, a length of tubing, and a metal wand which sits on the ground in front of him, Paric says, "This is a flamer."

Toni walks to the Stables.

Ganarah nods, savign up the questions for now.

Kerran ambles down some steps which lead to the great doors and the Hold.

Kerran ambles towards the beach.

Paric smiles, "It has many parts to it.  All of which must be properly maintained for the flamer to operate safely." 

Ganarah says, "I would immagine that the nozzle assmebly alone has quiet a few, much less the tanks and the hook ups."

Toni walks in.

Toni goes home.

Paric nods, "Yes, very many.  It is for that reason, that it is important that when you are to use it that you inspect it for any damage prior to using it to flame thread."  He begins to point to various parts on the flamer.  "I'm going to give a simplified version of the parts that you need to look at."

Ganarah nods, her eyes right with you and attentive.

Toni walks in.

Toni walks towards the beach.

Paric smiles, "Okay...as you can see it consists mainly of two tanks, some hosing, " he says taking the wand and hosing into his hands, "and the wand."

Toni walks up a few small steps and passes into the Hold through the great doors.

Ganarah's eyes dance over every milimetere in that inspective mannor of hers.  She nods slowly.

"The first thing that you should always do before using these is to inspect it for any damage.  You should not find any dents, cracks, or scratches on the tanks or wand or even the hoses.  If you do, don't use that flamer!" Paric says emphasizing the word 'don't'.  "Instead, report the damaged unit to one of the smithcraft masters so that it can be repaired.  I don't want to see anyone injured because they failed to follow that simple safety precaution."

Ganarah nods taking that rather seriously.  She's had enough serious of burns for her life already, thanks.

Paric smiles as he points to a small switch on the unit. "You'll also notice that each flamer," he begins to say, "is equipped with a safety switch.  While it is possible for anyone to 'safe' a flamer, only the holder or master smiths can 'unsafe' them for use.  The only way you can incinerate thread with a flamer is if the safety is disengaged."

You have disengaged the safety on Craft Flamethrower1.

Ganarah nods as she's getting all of this.

Paric smiles, "Okay...why don't you take this and take a look at it." he says handing her one of the flamers.  "Give it a good once over for any damage that might cause a problem."

You lift Craft Flamethrower1 and strap it on your back.

You hand Craft Flamethrower1 to Ganarah.

Ganarah says, "Arent' you going to reengage the safty first sir?"

Paric grins, "Why...we are going to be using it!  Take a look at it, you'll notice that it is empty for the moment."

Ganarah ahhhh's, noting on he gague that it is indeed empty.  "Just checking to be sure..."  The she starts a very slow and nitpicky search for any sign of wear or dammage.

Paric smiles. "For the flamer to actually produce a flame, we need to provide it with something combustible.  For that, we have a chemical known as Ageenothree.  It accomplishes two things.  One, it is used to incinerate thread that hasn't yet burrowed underground.  Two, it will drown escaping thread in the burrows they create. "

Canalia walks out of the courtyard onto the docks.

Ganarah asks "What's in ageenothree?"

Paric chuckles, "Ah...that is a very good question, however, way beyond the needs for today's lesson.   You will learn more about that one of the chemistry lessons."

"Ageenothree does have one side benefit that is worth noting...it will act as a fertilizer when it contacts the ground," says Paric with a grin.  "That is very important when you are trying to incinerate thread in a field or if you accidentally spill some."

Ganarah sighs, but accepts the answer.  For now anyway.  "Rather nice suprising side effect....."

Shimmer walks towards the beach.

Paric chuckles, "Discovered purely by accident, but yes, very beneficial."

Ganarah says, "Most of the best things are discovered accidently, aren't they sir?"

Canalia walks in.

Canalia walks out of the courtyard onto the docks.

Paric smiles, "Now, while Ageenothree  can ignite into flames, you must keep in mind that it is also a very caustic substance that burns when it makes contact with your skin.  So it is very important that you follow my instructions very carefully."  Frowning, he shakes his head, "I don't want deal with any self inflicted burns today.  However, if you do end up getting any of the agenothree on you, you should immediately rinse it off in water, large quantities of water until the pain subsides, then report to a healer.  Is this understood?"

Ganarah says, "Yes sir."

Minoen walks in.

Minoen walks up a few small steps and passes into the Hold through the great doors.

Paric smiles, "Should you spill any Ageenothree on the ground, move away from it until it soaks into the ground.  There it'll act as a fertilizer and become harmless to those around you."

Ganarah nods still listening just as intently.

Paric grins. "You are remembering all of this right?  I might ask you questions on this in your exams. " he says with a chuckle.

Ganarah looks up at her instructor, eyebrows furrowed a bit.  "Of course."

Paric chuckles, "Great.  Then why don't we give you a little more hands on experience then."  He walks over to the flamer rack and pulls out another flamer and quickly inspects it for any damage.  He then walks over to a charging unit.

You remove Craft Flamethrower2 from Flamer Rack.

Ganarah watches intently.

Ganarah says, "I have a question sir, is it the caustic nature of the ageenothree, or the fact that it's liquid that kills burrowed thread?"

Paric chuckles, "Oh...you were listening, eh.  Actually, the thread drowns in the ageenothree, just as if it were water."

Ganarah grins.  "I have a bad habbit of doing that...."

Paric smiles, "Well...without any ageenothree in its tanks, this flamer is pretty useless.  So we will need to fill the tanks from a charging unit.  Okay, I will want you to do exactly as I do.  So pay attention."  He takes a hose and begins to attach it to the unit.  "Connect the flamer to the charging unit like so," he says demonstrating the technique.  "At which point you are ready to fill the tanks."

You hook your Craft Flamethrower2 up to the Flamer Chargin Unit.

Fuel begins pumping into the Craft Flamethrower2.

Ganarah studies you a moment then does exactly as you do, there might have been other's in the past that have screwed up, but other than she's moving a littleon the slow side, she looks like she's done this before.

Paric smiles, "Okay...if you take a look and check the guage, you'll notice that it is now registering that it is full."

Paric chuckles, "Okay...so far so good.  Lets strap these things to our backs and do a little target practice."

Ganarah does as you say.  She nods, "Does the saftey need to be off to refill the tanks?"

Paric smiles, "The safety must be off to fill or drain the tanks."

Ganarah nods, now it makes sense, but of course she doens't verbally explain how it makse sense all of a sudden to her.  "Um...ready when you are, sir?"

Paric smiles and nods. "Okay, to fire the flamer you must aim the wand at whatever you are going to flame, then depress the trigger.  Do not...," he says emphasizing those two words, "... point the wand at anything you don't want to incinerate.  Is this understood?"

Ganarah smiles and takes up her flamer, still waiting on you to give further instruction, like when to prepare to fire.

"Flamers are to be used only on thread and thread burrows.  Okay...step away from anyone that may be in your way and make sure that keep that way.   Locate your target and depress the trigger.  Very simple!" grins Paric.  "Okay, I'll go first and make sure you pay attention to what I do.  You will be going next."

Paric smiles grimly and takes a step forward while looking about to make sure that no one is nearby.  He takes aim at the flamer target and slowly squeezes the trigger...

You lift Craft Flamethrower2 and strap it on your back.

Paric depresses the trigger on his Craft Flamethrower2. Instantly, a *huge* flame erupts from the end of the wand.

Flamer Target is hit by the flame!

There is an audible 'clack' from Paric's Craft Flamethrower2, and the flame disappears with the remains of the Flamer Target.  Paric looks around for another target.

Paric smiles and steps back toward Ganarah, the wand of the flamer pointing toward the ground and away from her.  "Okay...your turn."

Ganarah steps up to the target area, aproxematly the same distance from the target you were standing.  She slowly raises the nozzle, eyes a bit wide in anticipation as she checks for people before fireing.

Paric grins, "Okay...take a look at your gauge...you'll notice that it is slightly lower."

Ganarah allows herself a slight smile.  "Thanks....I have a good teacher."  She looks back and nods.  "Makes sense..."

Paric chuckles, "Thank you.  Alright!  At the end of a long, hard day of incinerating thread, we still have one more thing to do before we can go in and eat.  We must drain the tanks on flamer, engage the safety, and put them back on the rack.  So lets head back over to the charging unit and I'll show you how to do that."

Orb walks in.

Ganarah says, "Ok."

Ganarah removes Craft Flamethrower1 from her back and carefully sets it down.

Paric smiles and walks back over to the charging unit and places his flamer down on the ground next to it.  He again hooks up the hoses to the flamer, "Okay...this should do it." he says demonstrating the proper technique.

Paric smiles at Ganarah, "It is a combinations of a couple of various chemicals.  But if you want to know more than that, you'll have to take a few chemistry lessons."

Ganarah grimaces, "I've been avoiding chemestry....." she turns to Mlessan, "Just finnished up a flamer class."

Mlessan says, "Yes i was here when you were putting away FlameThrower 2"

Mlessan says, "I was wondering how to get started sence this is my first time visiting the Hold"

Paric chuckles, "Well...I need to run.  We'll talk more, I'm sure, on the subject."
